Three years ago, SMSL Audio launched one of the most impressive DACs of its time, the VMV D1Se, which had all the necessary attributes for success. It was priced competitively, featured high-quality components including a linear power supply, offered a wide array of digital inputs, and delivered exceptional sound quality. The following year, they introduced what I believe is their finest DAC to date, the SU-10, which nearly doubled the component selection and for the first time utilized separate linear transformers, one for the digital section and another for the analog section. Now, they have released a spiritual successor to the SU-10, named SU-X, which also represents SU-10 in the Roman numeral system. The price has increased from $899 to $999, which seems reasonable given that global inflation has risen by 12% during this time. Enough talk, let’s dive in and explore it as we usually do!
