NEW RELEASE: ERIC CLAPTON – Meanwhile, Slowhand still around.

Dear melomaniac, I was surprised to learn from Qobuz’ new releases section that a new album from the professor of slow hands is out, it is called “Meanwhile”, and it is Eric Clapton’s 22nd album, just released this October 2024. You can imagine my surprise was big, we do live in wonderful times as Clapton, Gilmour, Anderson, Gabriel, now in their senior times are still composing and recording special albums.

“Meanwhile”, with no reserve, is equally as good as Clapton’s previous discs, however bringing a sense of balance and tranquility I’ve never heard in the previous cases. It’s like Clapton is finally at peace with the world and with all the hardships he has endured over the years.

It’s very true that old age brings peace, but, in this case, it has also brought creativity, the album being very enjoyable, I have listened to it on repeat these past days and I will say that I simply love it. It is one of those albums that you are coming back to when you need peace and tranquility.

The cover of the album shows Eric in a dinner place, probably somewhere in the US, enjoying a cup of coffee, having a tranquil smile on his face, but wearing the hat of disguise, so necessary for Gods walking between regular people. He is, nevertheless, one of the best all-time guitarists in this world.

The album features deep introspective songs and classic blues arrangements, the disc includes six new tracks and eight previously released singles, featuring collaborations with Van Morrison, Judith Hill and the late Jeff Beck. You will find great versions of “Smile” or “Always on My Mind” on this disc, featuring this down-tempo chill atmosphere specific to this album.

If the whole disc speaks of mid-pace and tranquil moods, there is a special song on it that has the blueprint of a big hit, it is called One Woman and it is deeply reggae infused. You think that old age cannot bring simple hits anymore? Well, listen to One Woman and your opinion will definitely change.

So, give it a chance, give it a go, have a listen!
