NEW SPEAKERS FROM WHARFEDALE: Linton’s on steroids! The new Super Lintons are here.

Dear reader, Wharfedale just did something interesting: they took the already successful Linton speakers, and they added the adjective “Super” to their name. The new Super Linton speakers promise the same great-looking vintage design, but with a twist of extra performance and refinement. So, let’s dig in and see what the upgraded version of the Lintons brings to the table.

First, a little overview. We know that back in 2019, Wharfedale launched a series of speakers inspired from their successful products of the 1960s and 1970s, the series were called the “Linton”, featuring a great looking classic design. Even if the 2019 Lintons were very successful and, oh boy, goodlooking, their sound was amazing but was lacking the modern high-end twist. That made the Lintons an option only for hi-fi enthusiasts, and if high-end audiophiles needed high-end speakers, they needed to look at the Elysian line or at the Dovedale series to get this extra layer of refinement.

The new “Super Lintons” promise to bring this extra layer of refinement, having upgraded drivers, upgraded crossover section and an upgraded cabinet, all of these without sacrificing the classical look. The cabinet is slightly taller for the Super Lintons, having thicker materials on the inside to reduce vibrations. The bass driver was also upgraded, now being more powerful, delivering notes down to 32Hz.

The tweeter comes directly from the flagship Dovedale series, featuring a ceramic magnet system. The midrange driver was not changed, but, as a novelty, it is housed in a separated enclosure. You can see below the whole speaker “exploded”:

The crossover is also being heavily upgraded, the novelty is that the crossover is now comprised of two separate boards, to minimize interference between frequency bands. Higher quality components are also used.

The new Super Lintons will be available this November in Mahogany, Walnut and Black Oak classical finishes. The price is $2499 with stands and $2299 without stands, so, it is around double the price compared to the original Lintons. Let’s see if the performance will be also doubled. Can’t wait to get our hands on a pair. They are so beautiful, aren’t they?
