Get your hoods on, power up your subwoofers and prepare for a funeral like no other: Eminem is back, and he is killing Slim Shady! In March this year, Dr. Dre confirmed in a Jimmy Kimmel show that indeed Eminem was working hard on a new studio album that he will launch in 2024. This long-awaited event happened this last Friday and has revealed a new 19 track Slim Shady concept album called “The Death Of Slim Shady”.
But, what’s this thing about Slim Shady dying? Who is Slim Shady anyways? Well, the story goes back to the beginning of Eminem’s music carrier and the complexity of his work. Slim Shady is one of his alter ego’s that he’s been using in his albums for the last 25 years. Slim Shady was supposed to represent his young self, the blond haired young and restless rapper who was trying to make a name for himself on the rap scene. I listen to a lot of hip-hop, but I do not know of any other rapper who uses alter egos like that, sleek, isn’t it?
Now, coming back to this supposed death of Slim Shady, well, as any other Eminem album, this one is equally as deep as the ones before, giving us a closure on the story of Slim Shady, but this story is not the easiest to understand, you need foremost to be a true Eminem fan to understand what happens to Slim Shady in this new album.
The death is only an allegory in this case, marking a true change for the more mature Eminem who is looking back more peaceful to his old alter egos and basically, with this album, he’s most probably telling us: Slim Shady transcended, I changed, I reinvented myself and this is how all of this sounds.
For sure we will listen to “The Death Of Slim Shady” on repeat these following days and we will come back with a full album review, giving you guys our thoughts on this new great album from Eminem, one of the best rappers around.
