Did you know that “Cigarettes After Sex” is a band? I didn’t know until a few years ago and it was very funny that, after listening to their albums, I said: dude, this chick can sing! But, in utter shock, my face looked like Jim Carrey in “The Cable Guy” when I found out that the “chick” from Cigarettes After Sex is actually a guy named Greg Gonzales.
Cigarettes After Sex sings a special kind of music, as the name of the band says, really tapping into that supreme Zen moment that comes at the end of love making. CAS steals that moment and makes it live longer in their music. So, listening to their albums feels liberating, feels like no burden exists, feels like the weight of the world is off your shoulders.
The band is comprised of Greg Gonzalez – vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, Randall Miller – bass and Jacob Tomsky – drums. Additionally, for this album we have Jeff Kite on keyboards. Production was done by Greg Gonzales, mixing by Rocky Gallo and mastering by Greg Calbi.
“X’s” is their new album just launched a few days ago, is their third album released at Partisan Records. The album speaks of Greg Gonzales’ feelings, especially about his loss of a four-year relationship.
Hitting play on X’s will bring you the same mood and feeling of Cigarettes After Sex, still tapping with stoicism into that cool Zen feeling. The disc is very good, feels more elaborate than the old ones, full of new great new feelings from Greg, feeling like a far cry, but nevertheless, a sweet far cry.
Want to feel Zen? Give X’s a try, give it a go, give it a chance, give it a cigarette, let’s see where this leads to…
