NEW RELEASE: Luck and Strange by DAVID GILMOUR (still rockin’ at 78).

Dear melomaniac, one of the hottest new releases of this autumn comes from the illustrious David Gilmour, the salt and pepper of Pink Floyd – one of the greatest bands in the world, if you ask me. Most probably you all know that Gilmour is one of the most gifted guitarists and singers out there, being a constant member of Pink Floyd, but also launching solo albums starting with 1978’ “David Gilmour, followed by “About Face” 1984, “On an Island” 2005, “Rattle That Lock” 2015 and this fresh one, “Luck and Strange” 2024.

For us melomaniacs, this is a big event, as these old legendary dudes, as Gilmour is, still have the drive to make beautiful music and, I must say, I am seriously asking myself who will be able to carry the torch after these guys are no longer here. So, having an active 78-year-old David Gilmour who still licks, riffs, sings and launches albums, for me is a very big event and I will praise it as much as I can.

The concept of the album started at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, Gilmour and his family doing livestreams with live music performances, this is when this album got its blueprints. While the lyrics are all signed by David’s wife Polly Samson, on the actual Luck and Strange you can also hear the voice of David’s daughter, Romany Gilmour – lead vocals on track 6, “Between Two Points”.

Luck and Strange is deep, having a serious touch of the “Gilmour-effect”, but also a hint of Pink Floyd, Gilmour’s Pink Floyd. The sound quality is good, but, like any modern release, it cannot get near the masterpieces of the past, but, nevertheless, a new Gilmour album is an event, and the music must be praised. Thank you Mr. Gilmour, you still rock us!
